Cops Disciplined In Chopper Joyride
(LAS VEGAS, NV)–The Metro Police internal investigation into a helicopter joy ride given to a rock star has ended with personnel discipline, KXNT reported.
Metro says Capt. David O’Leary, a 25-year-veteran of the force will retire rather than be demoted to Lieutenant.
Effective January 11, Offc. Ray Horsley will be re-assigned out of Air Support Detail and no longer permitted to fly for the police department. The police investigation found both violated policy when they gave Guns and Roses guitarist DJ Ashba and his girlfriend a chopper ride in August so Ashba could propose marriage.
The incident became a public relations disaster for the force, magnified by the death of an officer during a chopper rescue operation on Mt Charleston later and was routinely mentioned by opponents to the sheriff’s proposal to raise the sales tax to pay for Metro salaries.
