PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a man was arrested after he scaled a fence at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and ran onto a taxi-way.
Police spokesman Officer James Holmes says 49-year-old Robert Edward Bump’s presence on the runway around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday had prompted the pilot of a Southwest Airlines plane that had just landed to turn off the aircraft’s engines.
The plane was about to approach the terminal when the pilot was alerted of Bump’s presence.
No injuries were reported, and Holmes says passengers were never endangered by Bump’s actions.
Holmes says Bump showed signs of possible drug and alcohol impairment and was booked on a misdemeanor of charge of entering a restricted area at the airport.
