( Washington, D.C. )  – 74-year-old Harry Reid is spending the day in a Washington DC hospital.

His office says he’s ok, but that the Senate Majority leader checked himself in after not feeling well when he woke up this morning. Doctors suggested he spend the day there as a precaution.

Senate Majority Whip, Dick Durbin ( D- IL ) said he spoke by telephone with Reid and that he sounded good.

Reid’s office has put messages up on his facebook page and twitter accounts.

A tweet reads: “Senator Reid was not feeling well this morning. He is in the hospital today, alert, resting and feeling better.”

Reid has served in the US Senate since 1987. The native of Searchlight, Nevada, a tiny town between Las Vegas and Laughlin, has said he plans to run for re-election in 2016.

KXNT has been following this story since it broke just after 6 Friday morning and will continue to update as we get more information.
