PHOENIX (AP) — A Tempe police officer has resigned and is back in custody after his second arrest within three days.
Tempe police say 30-year-old Garrett Michael Peterson resigned Monday morning. That happened in the wake of his being arrested early Saturday and accused of threatening his ex-wife in Gilbert and then leading officers on a high-speed chase while allegedly driving intoxicated.
He appeared in court and was placed on house arrest in connection with the Saturday arrest.
Authorities also report that Peterson was involved a separate incident Monday afternoon.
In the latest incident, he’s accused of driving the wrong way during a chase on Interstate 8 and of being involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer rig.
