Teacher Aide Sent To Prison In Sex Case
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A West Jordan teacher’s aide is headed to prison for five years to life after a jury convicted her of having sex with two teenage boys.
Andrea Billingsley was sentenced Monday by a judge who refused to delay sentencing to let her spend Christmas with her own teenage sons.
Third District Judge Charlene Barlow says it’s been four years since Billingsley was accused of wrongdoing at West Jordan Middle School. Her case was put on hold for an appeal to the Utah Supreme Court. The justices ruled that Billingsley’s lawyers weren’t entitled to question the victims about their own sexual experience.
Billingsley apologized Monday for having sexual contact with the 14- and 17-year-old boys in 2009.
Prosecutor Peter Leavitt says that Billingsley denied the allegations for years and called the boys liars. Leavitt says it all started when Billingsley was supervising students in detention, and that other sex acts took place at a local park.
