(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–An ‘Animal Appreciation’ license plate just might be the perfect holiday gift for the pet lover in your life.
Clark County says the plates, which have been offered for the past seven or eight years, not only shows your love for animals, but proceeds from the plates go to a humanitarian cause: providing low- or no-cost spay and neuter services which keep the animal population down.
County officials say it also reduces the number of dogs and cats which are euthanized each year–down 22% in the county in 2013 thus far.
Its all done through DMV.
“There’s an initial fee for the license plate if its your first time getting it. Then there’s an annual renewal fee. You have to turn in your old plate when you get the new one”, says county spokesman Dan Kulin.
The first-time plate fee is $61. The renewal is $30, twenty dollars of which goes to provide spay and neuter services. Local agencies provide about 1500 such procedures in a given year.
