(Las Vegas, NV)  —  A group of faculty members have urged the Board of Regents to appoint former UNLV president Carol Harter as acting chief.

The “Review-Journal” reports that in a letter sent to the regents, there’s “growing concern that UNLV is out of step with 21st century universities” when it comes to  women and minorities.

One associate professor claims UNLV has become “the ‘Mad Men’ of universities.”

Harter served as president from 1995 through 2006.

Current president Neil Smatresk is stepping down to become head of the University of North Texas.

Regents could vote on an acting president next month.
