(Washington, DC) — Congressman Joe Heck could offer a Republican alternative to the Senate-passed DREAM Act as early as today.
Heck’s bill would require undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to complete school or military service before applying for citizenship.
He tells KXNT the education requirement would cover college and certification from a vocational school.
Heck, who faces re-election next November, is being criticized over his proposal. His likely Democratic opponent, Erin Bilbray, has accused Heck of playing “games of sleight of hand when it comes to immigration reform.”
