Defense Up Next In Highway Shooting Case
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A jury that has heard a week of prosecution evidence and 21 witnesses could hear directly from a Las Vegas woman accused of plotting with her son and her brother to kill her estranged husband for his insurance money.
Amy Pearson Bessey could testify in her defense Monday in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas.
She’s facing seven felony charges including conspiracy and attempted murder in the November 2012 shooting that wounded Robert Bessey as he drove to work in the pre-dawn darkness on Interstate 15 outside Las Vegas.
The plan went awry after Robert Bessey survived and police traced a gold SUV from which shots were fired.
Amy Bessey’s ex-convict brother, Richard Pearson, and son, Michael Bessey, face similar charges.
They’re due for trial in February.
