Strip Carjacking Indictment
(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–A county grand jury has indicted James Montgomery, the man accused of commandeering a pickup truck on the Strip earlier this year and crashing it a few blocks later, killing a California Highway Patrol officer and the best man at his pending wedding.
Montgomery has been indicted on charges of murder, kidnapping, and larceny charges. The grand jury announcement from the District Attorneys office says Montgomery was drunk and high on August 18th when stole the pickup truck of Jesus Magdaleno and Jesus Cruz outside of a hotel on Flamingo Road. The two men tried to stop the carjacking by jumping into the truck bed as the vehicle sped away. Police alleged Montgomery then crashed the vehicle a few blocks away, the impact killing Magadaleno and Cruz, who had come to Las Vegas for Magdaleno’s bachelor party.
