RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 41-year-old Sparks man who works as a computer technician for NV Energy has been arrested for soliciting a minor for sex in exchange for a laptop computer.
U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden says Shane Bateman was arrested in Reno Thursday after a 16-year-old girl disclosed the incident to a Reno detective working the Street Enforcement Team.
Police say the girl provided a phone number for the man she called “Laptop Guy” to a detective, who then posed as another underage girl willing to make a similar arrangement.
Bateman was arrested when he showed up to meet the girl at a Motel 6 at Wells Avenue and Interstate 80.
Investigators found an NV Energy service sticker on the first laptop and confirmed employees cannot trade or give away the utility’s computers.
