LAS VEGAS (AP) — Family members of a young mother who died of tuberculosis this summer say they blame a Las Vegas hospital for failing to diagnose her with the illness.
Lawyers for the family of 25-year-old Vanessa White said Thursday that doctors conducted multiple tests, but didn’t pursue the possibility of TB after a nurse screened for symptoms and ruled out the condition.
An autopsy performed after her death in July found that White had TB. One of her premature twin babies died of TB in August at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center.
The other baby died in May but was never tested for the disease.
Attorney Robert Cottle says the family is preparing a lawsuit to seek damages and policy changes at the hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman said she couldn’t immediately provide comment.
