(Las Vegas, NV) – Today is the official celebration of Nevada’s admission to the union in 1864, so all state and local government offices will be closed.
When “Nevada Day” originally became a state holiday it was observed on the day the state was admitted to the union: October 31st. In the late 1990s, the Nevada Legislature voted to change the observation to the last Friday of October.
Clark County schools, UNLV and the College of Southern Nevada will have no classes.
All local libraries will be closed, but federal offices will be open today and postal service will go on as usual.
Many banks may be closed for Nevada Day, so check your local branch for details.
