(HENDERSON, KXNT)–A 23 year old woman died of a gunshot wound. Her boyfriend says he was playing with the gun and didn’t think it was loaded.

Henderson Police have booked 22 year old Colin Lowrey on an open murder charge and is being held without bail.

Police say the District Attorney’s Office will determine the precise charge–which could range from first-degree murder to involuntary manslaughter.

Lowrey called 9-1-1 Tuesday morning to say a handgun went off accidentally and that a woman inside the house on Taliput Palm Place near Gibson and Sunset had been shot in the head.

She died of wounds later at Sunrise Hospital’s trauma unit.

Police say Lowrey shared the home with three roommates. At one point he was playing with the handgun and put it to the woman’s head and pulled the trigger.

The gun, say police, is registered to Lowrey.

The victim was not identified pending further information from the coroner’s office. Police say her death is the 7th homicide in Henderson this year.
