Las Vegas – UNLV’s four game win streak came to an end Saturday night in Fresno as they ran into the red hot Bulldogs.
Fresno quarterback Derrick Carr threw for 412 yards and four touchdowns to lead the 17th ranked Bulldogs past the Rebels 38-14.
All four of Carr’s touchdowns were caught by Devante Adams, who finished with 221 yards receiving and the four scores.
Caleb Herring threw one TD pass and Tim Cornett ran for 49 yards to break Mike Thomas’ career school rushing record with 3,158 yards before leaving with a lower-body injury. But UNLV had its four-game winning streak snapped.
The Rebels haven’t won five straight since a seven-game streak in 1984 when Randall Cunningham was the quarterback.
Any chance the Rebels had of winning this game ended early in the third quarter when they failed to take advantage of a short field after returning the second-half kick to the Bulldogs 45.
UNLV went three-and-out and Carr responded with an 11-play, 84-yard drive capped by the 37-yard TD pass to Adams that made it 35-14. The Rebels had no points and 89 yards in the second half.
Next up for the Rebels is the Battle for the Freemont Cannon as they travel to Reno Saturday to take on the Nevada Wolfpack.
