FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A man who authorities say once tried to set up a whites-only nation in America is set to appear in federal court Thursday on a weapons charge.
Kirby Kehoe was arrested earlier this week at his sprawling ranch near Ash Fork. Authorities say they seized dozens of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition from the property.
The hearing in Flagstaff is to determine whether Kehoe will remain jailed while his case plays out.
Kehoe’s son, Cheyne, also is in custody on a weapons charge. His next court appearance is Tuesday.
Both men have previous felony convictions and are banned from possessing weapons.
Cheyne Kehoe’s attorney said Wednesday that his client had used a .22-caliber rifle for target practice and has disavowed white supremacy.
