NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — North Las Vegas police say a dispute between an estranged couple sent the wife to the hospital with a gunshot wound and ended with her husband taking his own life.

Police say the 67-year-old husband and his 23-year-old wife were separated, and the dispute began after the woman went to her former home to exchange some property on Saturday.

She was shot by her husband and made it to the front yard before collapsing. She was sent to a Las Vegas hospital after suffering at least one gunshot wound.

Police say officers were confronted by the husband when they arrived at the home and he shot himself in the head with a handgun as soon as they commanded him to drop the weapon.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name and cause death.

Police say a neighbor rescued the woman from the yard and moved her to safety.
