Anti-UNLV Video By UNR Students Taken Off YouTube
RENO, Nev. (AP) — University of Nevada, Reno students who posted a video on YouTube that ridicules the University of Nevada, Las Vegas have removed it in response to a cease-and-desist order issued by administrators.
UNR officials say they issued the order Oct. 7 to take down the video because it used their university’s trademarked logo and gave the impression it was produced by the university.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that students complied with the order by a Friday deadline set by the university.
The satirical video features a long-haired, bearded man called J.C. who wears a robe and sandals and calls himself UNR’s “official unofficial” mascot.
At one point, J.C. autographs a student’s partially exposed breast and later attacks a mop effigy dressed in a UNLV Rebels T-shirt, yelling, “Your school sucks” and “Your school is a waste of state money.”
The Gazette-Journal identified UNR senior Brian Sergott as the videographer for it, but reports other students involved have not been identified.
The video was designed to get students excited about the Oct. 26 Nevada homecoming game against UNLV.
