Saudi Airman’s Sexual Assault Trial Begins
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jury selection is set to start in Nevada for the trial of a Saudi Arabian air force sergeant accused of raping a 13-year-old boy last New Year’s Eve at a Las Vegas Strip hotel.
Prosecutors and a defense attorney for Mazen Alotaibi say it could take all day Thursday to pick jurors for a planned 10 days of testimony.
Alotaibi has pleaded not guilty to nine felonies including kidnapping, sexual assault of a minor and lewdness with a child that could get him life in prison.
Alotaibi told Las Vegas police he spent hours drinking at a strip club before meeting the boy in a hallway at the Circus Circus hotel-casino early Dec. 31.
His lawyer says the boy wanted marijuana and offered to exchange sex for money.
