Officials Highlight Pedestrian Safety

Las Vegas CBS KXNT – October is Pedestrian Safety Month, launched locally by a gathering of police officers and elected officials, reminding drivers and pedestrians to watch out for each other.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman spoke about the perils pedestrians have faced while waiting for the bus, challenging RTC to improve bus stop safety. The city has appropriated a million dollars to buy property rights that would move bus stops back from vehicle traffic, Goodman said.

Family members and victims of pedestrian auto crashes spoke about the incidents that took the lives of loved ones.

The Southern Nevada Regional Trasportation Commission announced a video contest open to Clark County resident who want to create a 30-second public service announcement about pedestrian safety. Rules are posted on the RTC website. First prize is an Apple iPad.
