LAS VEGAS (AP) — Fifteen people who lost their lives to domestic violence in Las Vegas last year are being honored as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The victims’ names will be added to an ongoing list of more than 290 people killed in the area in the past 12 years.
Victims’ names and ages will be read during a ceremony Thursday morning at Las Vegas police headquarters, and a rose will be placed in a vase after each reading.
Police say that while adding just one name to the list is too many, the number of victims has declined over the years. Thirty-nine people died of domestic violence in 2010, 30 died in 2011, and 17 died last year.
