(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Investigators have arrested a 28 year old man in connection with a series of arson fires Wednesday in the area near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo. Paul Joyner was released from the county Detention Center one month ago, after serving a six month term—for arson.
Assistant Fire Chief Sandra Baker tells KXNT investigators were already looking for Joyner as they put out some of the fires he was accused of setting Wednesday, based on witness descriptions and a check with the detention center.
Joyner’s previous jail visit involved dumpster fires set in the same area as Wednesday’s fires.
The first fire early Wednesday morning was in an apartment complex on East Rochelle. Over the next two hours, several other fires were reported in the same area. Hours later, yet another fire was reported behind a business on S. Maryland Parkway and a business park, where a vehicle caught fire. Baker says one of the fires was at a convenience store gas station, the fire set under the overhang of the building, which, if not extinguished quickly, could have led to a much more dangerous situation.
Although more charges may be forthcoming, Joyner is being charged with at least ten counts of arson in connection with Wednesday’s incidents.
