Downtown Curfew Starts on First Friday
Las Vegas CBS KXNT- October’s First Friday event will mark the first enforcement of a new downtown curfew for kids and teens. The curfew ordinance was approved unanimously by the city council on Wednesday, with an immediate effective date.
The 9 o’clock curfew was requested by the Las Vegas Metro Police, who wanted consistency between the downtown casino district and the Strip, said Mayor Carolyn Goodman.
The boundaries of the curfew area were revised after Councilman Ricky Barlow in a previous city council meeting requested a review, fearing the law would ensnare neighborhood youngsters on the streets where they live, just outside the downtown area.
The revised boundaries will affect fewer households. The curefew area is bordered east-to-west by Main Sreet and Maryland parkway; north-to-south by Stewart and Bridger.
The curfew in the rest of the city for children younger than 18 is 10 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends and holidays.
