Fatal Las Vegas House Fire
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say family members couldn’t get through a locked door to save a woman during an early morning fire in her Las Vegas home.
Investigators say it appears the woman in her 20s died of smoke inhalation. Her identity hasn’t yet been released.
Firefighters say a child that lives in the house called 911 about 1:30 a.m. Friday and told dispatchers the woman was trapped.
Crews that responded to the home on Brenner Way near Bonanza and Lamb found the garage had been turned into an apartment. They say they forced their way through the locked door and found the woman unconscious in the thick smoke.
She was later pronounced dead at University Medical Center.
Firefighters say smoking materials and candles were found in the apartment, but they’re still investigating the exact cause.
