LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas are investigating why a man was on railroad tracks, where he was struck and killed by a freight train.

Officials say the incident happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday near Tropicana Avenue and Valley View Boulevard. That’s a few blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip.

A Union Pacific official says it appears the man was walking along the tracks when he was struck and killed.

His identity wasn’t immediately made public.
