3 Hurt In Explosion South Of Las Vegas

An Apparent Gunpowder Incident During Target Shooting

SLOAN, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas police say three people were injured in an apparent gunpowder explosion while they were target shooting near Sloan.

One man was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical condition after the incident Sunday morning, while two other people had minor injuries.

Officer Laura Meltzer says it appears the three were target shooting on federal lands near Sloan Road and Las Vegas Boulevard South when they blended two substances together and the mixture exploded.

Meltzer says police were trying to determine what the substances were. She says the group had been trespassing on the Bureau of Land Management’s land at the time of the incident.
