(HENDERSON, NV. KXNT)–A Henderson woman was arrested on arson and child abuse charges after her 11 year old son was burned while trying to set fire to the family vehicle in a remote area this week.
Henderson police tell KXNT the bizarre case began when they answered a call of a vehicle fire in a remote area near Sam Boyd Stadium after midnight Wednesday morning.
An 11 year old boy was injured with burns. Investigators arrested the boy’s mother, later identified as 30 year old Juanita Denise Carr, and charged her with arson and child abuse.
Police believe the boy and an older friend had taken the mother’s car over the weekend and abandoned it near Sam Boyd. Upon learning this, Carr and her son drove to the area Wednesday morning with the intention of burning the vehicle. The 11 year old was burned when he tried to set fire to the vehicle and caught fire himself. Police say the two had stopped at a gas station on the way. Carr said she took the boy back to a gas station to summon medical attention.
The extent of the child’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. The mother was booked into the Henderson Detention Center.
