Las Vegas – Oscar De La Hoya has admitted himself to a treatment facility as he continues to fight his substance abuse. The move comes just days before the biggest fight of the year for his promotion company, when Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes on Canelo Alvarez this Saturday at the MGM Grand.
The 40-year-old ex-boxer says he explained to Alvarez that his health and long-term recovery was priority, so he would not be at the fight this weekend.
De La Hoya first admitted to abusing drugs and alcohol two years ago. He retired from boxing in December 2008.
