(KXNT)–The San Francisco City Attorneys office has filed a threatened class action lawsuit against the state of Nevada in connection with allegations of patient dumping from Las Vegas’ Rawson Neal Psychiatric Hospital.
Several California cities are joining the action. San Francisco says it has identified at least 500 patient transported to California from Rawson Neal since 2008. It says it identified at least 20 patients who immediately required medical care upon arriving in California. The city attorney says the practice cost San Francisco taxpayers a half million dollars.
The Nevada Attorney General’s office responded earlier this week to the threatened suit, dismissing the allegations and countering that Nevada taxpayers subsidized more than 6 million dollars in services provided at Rawson Neal for Californians getting psychiatric services at Rawson Neal. Nevada also questioned whether San Francisco or any other California city had legal standing to file such an action, and had provided evidence of the patients who allegedly required medical care in Nevada.
