Search Effort For Missing Firefighter Grows
JEMEZ SPRINGS, N.M. (AP) — The search for a Forest Service firefighter missing since Friday in the northern New Mexico’s Santa Fe National Forest is growing.
About 100 people were involved in the search Monday for 41-year-old Token Adams, who vanished while sizing up the perimeter of a wildfire on an ATV. Search spokeswoman Doratea Martinez says about 250 people will be out looking Tuesday.
And Martinez says a regional interagency management team is taking over the search Tuesday morning.
Adams failed to return to a pre-arranged meeting point Friday with two other firefighters who were also riding ATVs around a 25-acre wildfire in the area of Jemez (HAY’-mus) Springs.
The lightning-started wildfire was fully contained late Friday.
The search is being conducted in mesas and canyons, through heavy timber, brush and grass.
