LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 31-year-old Las Vegas man faces child abuse and murder charges after the death of a 5-month-old boy he was babysitting.

Anthony Casey was booked in the Clark County Detention Center in the death of his roommate’s son, Kaiden Chamberlain. The boy was declared brain dead and died Saturday in a pediatric intensive care unit, two days after he was taken to the hospital.

The boy’s mother says she left her son in Casey’s care while she went to work. She says Casey later contacted her to say Kaiden was “acting weird” and she needed to come home.

Kaiden was taken to the hospital with a severe head injury and broken bones.

Police say Casey denied that he caused the injuries, but didn’t explain how the baby got hurt.
