Standoff Ends With Armed Woman Shot In Face
(Las Vegas, NV) A standoff lasting nearly 24 hours ended shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday when a Metro Police SWAT officer shot an armed woman inside her home with two children.
Police arrived at the standoff at 4516 Newton Drive, near Mountain Vista Street and Tropicana Avenue after 11 p.m. Monday after an altercation between a man and a woman was reported.
“A female armed with a .45-caliber handgun barricaded herself in the home with two small children,” says Dep. Chief Al Salinas.
The Metro SWAT officers entered the home after hearing a gunhsot inside the house. Metro could not confirm what the woman was shooting at, but they entered in an attempt to keep the children safe.
The woman was found in a bathroom and shortly after used a .45-caliber handgun to shoot a SWAT officer in the shin. An officer returned fire, hitting the woman in the face. She was taken to University Medical Center and is expected to survive.
“The children were taken by Child Protective Services. Initially they were taken to Sunrise Hospital to be checked out. CPS now has the chidren and will keep them until further report,” says Salinas.
