Standoff Began With Gunplay
(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–A police report says the daylong siege at a home on the southeast side began Monday night with a domestic disturbance call. A husband had a shotgun and his wife a handgun.
Police say the Blake Jones left the residence on Newton Drive late Monday night when police arrived. Outside, brandishing a handgun, was Sara Jones. She went bakc into the home, refused to come out, and a 23-hour standoff ensued. Police say Jones threatened on numerous times during the ordeal to kill a child. There were two children in the house with her at the time.
The standoff ended late Tuesday when police heard a gunshot in the home and entered the residence. Jones allegedly fired at police, hitting a SWAT officer in the shin. He was not seriously hurt,. Police returned fire, wounding Jones in the face. She was hospitalized but her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Jones, 29, has been booked in absentia on the following charges Jones has been booked in absentia on charges of: Kidnap, first degree (two counts), Child endangerment with a deadly weapon (three counts), Resisting an officer with a deadly weapon, and Assault with a deadly weapon (domestic violence).
The officer who shot Jones has been placed on administrative leave, pending additional investigation.
