VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (AP) — Authorities in norther Nevada are trying to determine whether human remains were pumped out of a septic tank north of Virginia City.
Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says his office hasn’t confirmed whether the discovery is human remains, but has reason to believe it may be. He tells the Reno Gazette-Journal it’s unlikely people would throw animals down a septic tank, and says other items were found with the suspicious material.
Antinoro says the current residents at the house have lived there for decades, but aren’t suspected of any wrongdoing. He didn’t release their names and address.
He told the newspaper the remains were being sent to the Washoe County medical examiner’s office Tuesday for review.
