(Las Vegas, NV) College of Southern Nevada officials say mistakes were made and hundreds of students received incorrect federal financial aid over the last few years.

School President Michael Richards issued a statement Tuesday blaming human error for missing documentation, a miscalculation of the attendance costs for some part-time students and lack of oversight.

Richards announced that Santos Martinez resigned as CSN vice president of student affairs at the Las Vegas school.

He has been replaced by CSN Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration Patricia Charlton.

Richards says most mistakes resulted in too much financial aid going to students, and students would have had no way of knowing that they received an inaccurate amount of aid.

Richards says CSN will pay back the funds to the U.S. Department of Education, using non-state funds
