Las Vegas CBS KXNT – Kindergarteners at the Cambeiro Elementary School seemed mostly bewildered by a parade of news cameras following elected officials and Clark County Superintendent Pat Skorkowski down the hallways, as the school launched its inaugural “Zoom” year.
Cambeiro school is one of 14 in the district designated as Zoom schools. They are recipients of additional state money granted specifically for language and literacy enhancement. The students at this school are 96 percent English language learners, who will get extra attention in smaller classes, a reading development center, and a summer program next year because of the Zoom money.
The program was crafted with the intention of developing sold reading ability as a foundation for all academic subjects. The Zoom funding is a state-wide program approved for two years in select schools.
