RENO, Nev. (AP) — Thick smoke from the Yosemite wildfire more than 150 miles away kept Reno school children indoors and prompted county health officials to issue air quality alerts into the weekend.
The air quality index moved into the “unhealthy” zone for all residents in the Reno area Friday afternoon and was on the border of the “very unhealthy” range at one point.
Visibility was reduced to a mile in some areas around Lake Tahoe and along the Sierra’s eastern front from south of Carson City to north of Reno.
High school football players were kept off the practice field and an outdoor food festival was canceled in Reno Friday night. Saturday’s Lake of the Sky Air Show at Lake Tahoe has been scrubbed due to FAA regulations.
