Attendance Swells as UNLV Launches Fall Semester
Las Vegas CBS KXNT – The mood is upbeat and the color of the day is Rebel red, as the residence halls open for business on the UNLV campus.
Administrators and teaching staff are looking forward to a robust fall, as the campus welcomes its larges freshman class in two decades, University spokesperson Megan Downs told KXNT. More than 3,600 freshmen are expected.
On-campus residence is another uptrend, with the dormitories at capacity for the first time in recent years, Downs said.
Several factors are responsible, including a $1,000-per-semester scholarship to students from Clark County who agree to live on campus. There’s also been a marketing campaign promoting full-time campus life by a private company that’s taken over dormitory operations.
UNLV’s special event calendar is packed with activity from now through its first football game. The home opener pits the Rebels against Arizona on September 7.
