(KXNT, Las Vegas)–Police are asking for help in the carjacking case that took two lives on the Strip last weekend.

Police are seeking eyewitnesses, information from taxi drivers, pictures, video or and surveillance images in the area along Flamingo west to Valley View.

Police say James Montgomery carjacked a pickup truck Sunday morning at the Flamingo valet parking area. Felix Cruz, a California man in town for a bachelor’s party for his brother in law Jesus Magdaleno, was in the bed of the pickup at the time. Magdaleno, a California Highway Patrol officer scheduled to be married here next month, jumped into the pickup truck bed to help.

Police say Montgomery drove the vehicle wildly along Flamingo for several blocks, running lights and stop signs, colliding with another vehicle at Valley View a few blocks away. Both Cruz and Magdaleno were ejected and were killed.

Witnesses say Magdaleno and Cruz earlier had waved their arms, shouted, and called out for help. Magdaleno identified himself as a police officer to Montgomery and ordered him to slow down or stop.

The truck was an F-150 Ford.

Police detectives are seeking public assistance with any additional witnesses as well as any taxi cabs with video surveillance in the area during the time of the incident. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521.

Montgomery, also of California, made a brief court appearance this morning and was ordered to a preliminary hearing September 4th.

Victim Jesus Magdaleno is pictured here.
