MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested five people from Northern California on suspicion of kidnapping a woman so she could be forced into prostitution.

The 18-year-old woman escaped Friday and summoned help at a motel in Moreno Valley, according to a sheriff’s department statement.

She told deputies she’d been kidnapped in the Compton area a day earlier by a woman and four men armed with a handgun.

She said she was sexually assaulted by two of her kidnappers, then driven to a hotel room where she was going to be forced into prostitution.

“At some point before the prostitution acts began the suspects became distracted, providing the victim with the opportunity to flee,” Sgt. John Sawyer said in the statement.

The woman directed deputies to the suspects’ whereabouts just as they were trying to drive away.

Carolyn Lin, general manager of the Best Western motel, told the Riverside Press-Enterprise the woman walked up to the front desk and quietly told the clerk that she had been kidnapped.

All of the suspects come from San Jose and Gilroy.

Ana Karen Ceja, 20, was booked for investigation of procuring a person for prostitution, attempted pimping, conspiracy to commit a felony and false imprisonment.

Two men — 32-year-old Abubakr Horrington and 23-year-old Khalid Binhajjyahyaabdulmalik — were jailed for investigation of kidnapping, kidnap for robbery, forcible oral copulation, taking a person for the purpose of prostitution and false imprisonment.

The other men — 25-year-old Ibrahim Binhajjyahyaabdulmalik and 21-year-old Jerry Jermaine Landers — were booked for investigation of kidnapping, false imprisonment, taking a person for the purpose of prostitution and attempted pimping.
