LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada’s jobless rate has ticked down slightly to 9.5 percent, even though the raw number of jobs in the state is also down.
Officials from the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation say Friday that the July rate is 0.1 percentage point down from June.
At the same time, Nevada lost 10,200 jobs in July compared with the month earlier.
State economist Bill Anderson says that drop in job numbers doesn’t necessarily point to an oncoming downturn, but highlights the wide swings of jobs numbers from month to month.
Las Vegas’ non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 9.7 percent in July from 10.1 percent the month earlier. Reno’s rate dropped from 9.8 to 9.3 percent, while Carson City’s jobless rate decreased from 10.1 percent to 9.5 percent.
