(Las Vegas, NV) Board members of the Southern Nevada Health District thought the future was now. However, after leading candidate Dr. Thomas Coleman withdrew his application to become the new chief health officer, the board is left holding the bag.
Thursday, the board got back to work to determine who will be the main man at the district.
After some discussion it was determined that Dr. Joseph Iser, most recently of the Washoe County Health District will replace Dr. John Maddaugh.
Coleman and Iser were the only two qualified candidates due to a Nevada law that that requires the job holder be licensed in Nevada.
That law has since been changed and several board members agreed that if they started the process over it could be a year until the find Maddaugh’s successor.
Initial discussion with Dr. Joseph P. Iser will be held regarding the position. The employment package/agreement will be negotiated by the chief health officer succession committee and it will be brought back to the full board for final and formal approval.
