Kids In Foster Care In Need Of School Supplies
(Las Vegas, NV) With a new school year fast approaching, the Clark County Department of Family Services (DFS), Fostering Southern Nevada and Foster Kinship are coming together to ask the community to donate new backpacks, school supplies and school uniforms for children in foster care.
Donations should be brought to Peggy’s Attic, which is located at 701 N. Pecos Road. Donation hours are 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday.
The public also can call (702) 455-5424 to make arrangements to drop off donations outside these hours. The goal is to receive 500 backpacks and school supplies to fill the backpacks by August 20.
“Every child deserves to start the school year off with new school supplies. It really helps the children with a tramatic time in their life,” says Audrey Rosenstein at Foster Kinship.
Last year, DFS and Fostering Southern Nevada collected and distributed more than 300 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in foster care. This year’s goal is to touch the lives of 500 children.
“Time and time again the community has shown us how much they care about our children in care,” said Lisa Ruiz-Lee, DFS Director. “We are asking everyone to please help us make this an outstanding start to a brand new school year for our children.”
All collected backpacks, uniforms and school supplies will be distributed to children in care and their caregivers on Wednesday, August 21 at Peggy’s Attic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Peggy’s Attic is the donation center for DFS, serving all children who have come into contact with the juvenile abuse and neglect court.
