PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say two officers shot and killed a man who attacked and wounded the officers with a machete.
The incident happened just before midnight Monday after the officers went to an apartment complex in southwest Phoenix in response to a domestic violence call.
Sgt. Trent Crump says the man was hiding in a bathroom in an apartment and attacked the officers as they checked the welfare of a woman and four children.
The man was fatally wounded when the officers shot him as they retreated.
Crump says both officers are doing well. One was cut on the arm and the other on a hand.
Crump identified the man killed as 35-year-old Tobias J. Torres of Phoenix.
