LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas authorities say a 31-year-old man accused in the theft of $85,000 worth of stolen brass sidewalk light fixtures has turned himself.
City officials say Antwon Maurice Simmons was approached by a homeless man familiar with the case, and then turned himself in on Thursday.
A second man in the case, 47-year-old Michael Payne, was arrested on July 12. The two face multiple charges including possession of stolen property and theft.
Officials say the 147 missing light fixtures were installed during the 1990s to illuminate trees along Fourth Street. Each fixture costs about $580.
Investigators think Simmons and Payne sold the brass for scrap to various recyclers until employees at one firm became suspicious and contacted authorities.
