Battle Continues Over Nuclear Waste

(Washington, DC) — The fight over bringing radioactive uranium waste to Nevada has moved to Capitol Hill.
Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz told Congress on Tuesday there were “long discussions” with Nevada officials on shipping containers of the material from Tennessee’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory to the National Security Site northwest of Las Vegas.
Moniz says the plan was derailed in June, when Governor Brian Sandoval announced he would block any shipments of the bomb-usable uranium.
Sandoval’s spokeswoman says talks with the Energy Department are ongoing.
