Pickleball Finds New Home
(Las Vegas, NV) Have you ever thought of playing three sports at the same time? Pickleball may be your game.
The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net, but is mounted two inches lower. The game is played with a hard paddle and a polymer smaller version of a wiffle ball.
The new facility at Police Memorial Park will serve those of all ages looking to get some exercise and have some fun in the sun.
“The court we were able to refurbish at Police Memorial Park is a beautiful park. It commemorates those officers who have fallen in the line of duty,” says Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony.
The new pickleball court was repurposed from a former roller hockey court that was not being used. Lit for nighttime use, this new facility at Police Memorial Park is expected to be a popular venue for local youth, working adults and seniors.
The court will be available for public use on a first-come, first-serve basis when the park is open, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Pickleball, the fastest growing sport in America is similar to tennis, but with differences. A pickleball ball typically moves at one-third of the average speed of a tennis ball and the court is just under one-third of the total area of a tennis court.
