Las Vegas CBS KXNT- The school bell will ring in about a month, but back-to-school-purchases are ringing the cash register now.
Nevada’s back-to-school business will fall about 8 percent from the record amount spent last year, according to the Retail Association of Nevada, with parents laying out $221 million in the next few weeks for their elementary and high schoolers.
College spending will hit $87 million, bringing the total for the season to $300 million.
The association predicts $634 per elementary school and high school student. College students have higher expenses. They’re expected to spend $836 dollars apiece.
Back-to-school is retail’s second-largest season, following the fourth quarter holiday season.
