Las Vegas CBS KXNT -The state’s judical disciplinary commission will put its case against Judge Steven Jones on hold for a few weeks, after a stay from the Nevada Supreme Court, and a tussle in District Court with Jones’s attorney.
Jones is accused of presiding over court business while he was having a relationship with one of the female attorneys who came before him. The evidence was to be presented starting Monday in a disciplinary hearing.
The Supreme Court issued a one-week stay with an order for additional briefings from both sides.
Meanwhile, Jones is suing to stop the disciplinary action, asserting that the commission proceeded in a manner that violated his rights.
The case is halted for through August 9, in part because of the high court’s order, and in part because it isn’t clear whether a fellow district court judge in clark county has jurisdiction to issue the injunction.
