Sidewalk Lights Stolen, Suspect Sought
(Las Vegas, NV) The city of Las Vegas Deputy City Marshal Unit is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in connection with the theft of 147 decorative brass sidewalk lights. Each of the lights is estimated to have cost about $580, not including labor costs, and were installed in the 1990s to illuminate trees along Fourth Street between Colorado and Bridger avenues.
Investigators with the Deputy City Marshals are looking for Antwon Maurice Simmons, 31. Simmons’ accomplice, Michael Payne, 47, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on July 12 on multiple charges including theft and possession of stolen property in connection with the case.
Over the last several weeks investigators believe that Simmons and Payne were attempting to sell the brass pieces of the lights to various recyclers including SA Recycling, located at 1701 Western Ave. Employees at SA Recycling determined that the pieces were suspicious and contacted authorities.
Simmons is described as a black male, 160 pounds, 6 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. Simmons is known to frequent sports books and may be in the company of a female companion. If anyone has seen or knows the whereabouts of Simmons they are asked to contact investigators at (702) 229-3223 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
